OUR BEGINNINGS WERE HUMBLE
VICTOR RAMOS, PROFESSIONAL BARBER Instructor
I always followed my passion for art. At the age of 12, after coming home from the barbershop, I made an encounter with my stepdad's hair trimmer thinking I can fix a few lines on my haircut, and it all started from there. In 2010, I decided to enroll in barber school and was granted with my first "student of the month" certificate in just the first month. After I graduated in 2012, I realized it all came down to that final moment as I faced myself getting ready to open a Barbershop in Lima, Peru, my home country. And there it was, in 2013 I inaugurated Dream Cutz, the first official barbershop in La Molina, Peru. Facing adversity wasn't easy. I had to stand up for the word "Barbero" which means barber in English, due to the fact the public was fixated with the thought that a barber could only draw designs, and couldn't perform a regular scissor cut as well as a hairstylist. The only way to prove myself was to fade and blend the hair in ways they've never seen before, finishing with a sharp scissor trim on top, I had clients asking for more. After getting contracted by a local soccer team and reaching my highest level of success, I decided to return to the states and get experience in the healthcare field. At first, I worked in Sunrise Community as a direct support staff with individuals with special needs and had the opportunity to see the world in a different way. After that wonderful experience, I decided I wanted to help more people. Then, I began working at South Florida Evaluation & Treatment center helping people with mental disabilities and incompetent to proceed in court. Being a mental health technician came with lots of challenges as well as rewards, so I decided to pursue a career in Occupational Therapy and become more professional, but unfortunately it didn't workout. It was then when I realized God had other plans for me . . . becoming a Barber Instructor.
